An icon of French taste, free and whimsical, Andrée Putman imposed her unique style and inspired a generation of star architects in her wake. Through archives and testimonies, the documentary is a beautiful tribute to the high priestess of design, who passed away just ten years ago and who leaves us an enduring body of work, including the Pleyel piano "Voie Lactée".
Andrée Putman created a Pleyel piano...
For more than 200 years, Pleyel has shaped a rich cultural history, intersecting with the decorative arts of the 1930s and the most prestigious decorators who created avant-garde pianos for refined interiors.
“Voie Lactée” was born from the union of a mythical designer and the oldest piano manufacturer in the world. A unique luxury object, transformed into a life-size music box, refined in unprecedented proportions.
The marriage of design and music, curved and straight lines, black lacquer and chrome, blue milky way and mother of pearl, keyboard, and checkerboard...
A link between music and decorative arts, between piano and design.
This Pleyel grand piano is in the tradition of the mythical No. 3 model (the 2.04 m long Pleyel half-top manufactured from 1906 to 1937) which was chosen by great concert artists. Pleyel Pianos have entrusted the sound design of this new instrument to the renowned French piano maker Stephen Paulello, so that sound and aesthetics are an expression of the same ambition.
